Vehicle Maintenance Awareness Drive

PAPAR: given an intermediate increase in the number of registered vehicles at 22.1 per cent in Sabah in the last four years (2007-2010), the Road Safety Department (JKJR), through it is Outreach Programme, is making effort to educate the public on the importance of conducting regular maintenance of their vehicles.

As a Papar fellow member of parliament, Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said the programme was utile in enhancing cognizance among the persons in the district on safety issues involving vehicles.She said the programme was one of the integrated approaches by government agencies and corporate bodies to serve the humans in the rural areas.

“I believe through the programme, we can reduce accidents caused by failures of the vehicles parts to function.”

Rosnah’s speech was read by Papar District Officer Iman Ali for the duration of the launching of the Outreach Programme at the Papar Multipurpose Hall, yesterday.

Based on police records, a total of 16,192 road accident cases occurred in the state in 2010 where 447 resulted in deaths, she added. According to her, the attitude and negligence among road users were among the elements that contributed to road accidents, apart from bad road conditions, the weather and environment.
